Speakers: Paulo Ernani Gadelha Vieira, PhD, and Nísia Trindade Lima, PhD

Speaker bio: Dr. Paulo Ernani Gadelha Vieira is a renowned physician and public health expert in Brazil. He graduated in Medicine from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), and received his Master in Social Medicine from UERJ and Ph.D. in Public Health from the National School of Public Health, Brazil. Dr. Paulo Gadelha's research areas include but not limited to the construction of medical care and the history of diseases. He was the president of the Oswald Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) between 2009 and 2016, and currently coordinates the Healthy and Sustainable Territories Program at Fiocruz. He has presided over the Associations of Resident Physicians of Rio de Janeiro and the National Association of Resident Physicians. He was responsible for the creation of the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC), where he served as the director from 1985 to 1997, and the general rapporteur of the 12th National Health Conference. He has been a member of the Intersectoral Science and Technology Committee of the National Health Council since 2001.
